Bintan - Where Everything is Expensive

**22nd July 2012**

This is our first trip with just the three of us whereby baby is almost a year old. In fact, we decided to take a short break for our post wedding anniversary.

I came across Nirwana Resort Hotel's package resort.nirwanagardens.com from www.deal.com.sg, and booked our tour through Holiday Bagus www.holidaybagus.com. I was told to apply for a Pay Pal account, and payment was hassle free. The agency has an excellent customer service with their prompt email responses.

Total costs for two are SGD536 inclusive of:

- Resort hotel stay for 3 days 2 nights
- Return ferry tickets with seaport taxes
- Return transfer from ferry terminal to hotel
- Travel insurance for two
- Flying fox for two
- Daily breakfasts for two
- One lunch for two

I was such a muddle head as I thought baby travels for free. After re-confirming with travel agent, we paid SGD70 for baby's ferry ticket and travel insurance. Our little darling was whining and being cranky during that one hour ferry ride.

We were famished by the time we reached, and headed straight to redeem our free lunch at Makan Makan located at Nirwana Resort Centre. It is an indoor food court with several stalls. You can choose to sit outside for the sea view if you could stand the hot weather.

Our lunch - Nasi Goreng, and fruits platter

Our dinner was at Hotel's main restaurant, The Coffee Shop. We ordered soup, pasta, and sandwich. I was surprised at how good the food tasted, most probably due to I was too hungry?

There were quite a lot of activities, and facilities for us to explore. From swimming pool, flying fox, archery, shooting range to ATV. You can even enjoy a massage in a hut by the beach or try out their spa packages.

We did not try out any of them except for our free flying fox. I gave up mine to Fai as I have a fear of heights. To him, that was nothing since he is such an adventurous person. He had no problems sitting on roller coasters, cable cars...while I'm the one freaking out each time.

A SGD5 shuttle service per pax will get you to Pasar Oleh Oleh. I suggest that you stay around your resort as it is certainly not worth the trip. You can finish checking out in less than 15 minutes, half an hour if you intend to buy some handicrafts as souvenirs. They charged everything in SGD, so this is the first time I don't need to exchange to local currency.

We chose dinner at The Kelong (a restaurant built on stilts above sea). We managed to finish most of the dishes because the cooking style was just like local Zi Char.

Crayfish very fresh!

**24th July 2012**

There are a total of five different hotel / resorts under Nirwana Gardens:

- Nirwana Resort Hotel
- Mayang Sari Beach Resort
- Banyan Biru Villa
- Indra Maya Pool Villa
- Nirwana Beach Club

We rented buggy to move around the entire Nirwana Gardens which took us around an hour to travel to and fro.
