Desaru - Village Of Casuarinas

**19th March 2011**

If you are thinking of a short getaway over the weekend, do consider Desaru. Not only are there farms tours, but also a lot of facilities at the resort. It is a perfect trip for family. The best thing, Desaru is just a forty five minutes ferry ride from Singapore. We booked our tour through Desaru Fruit Farm http://www.desarufruitfarm.com for their two days one night package. Our buffet lunch was at the fruit farm's restaurant. You could eat all kinds of fruits to your heart's content.

We started our tour to fruit farm which was just a ten minutes walk away. We were glad that our tour guide was very experienced. He patiently explained to everyone about each and every fruit. I was so busy snapping away, truly loved nature. Other than fruits, there were also herbs, vegetables, and a mini zoo.

Papaya
Durians
Bitter gourd
Jambus
Thousand fingers banana (not edible) as per our tour guide
Cats' whiskers

Our next stop was to Ostrich farm, and we were lucky as one of them happened to lay an egg!

A day's old baby ostrich
Ostriches' egg shells redecorated as lamp
Next was seafood dinner at Sungai Rengit, we could not finish our food as there were too many dishes. Foods were average though, and the rows of seafood restaurants were in fact a tourist spot.

Last activity for the night was firefly river cruise. The area was certainly dark, you could not even see your own hand. Fortunately for us, it was a full moon night or I would be too afraid to board the boat. There were some fireflies which flew to us, too bad our camera was not able to capture a clear picture of them. You could see thousands of them hanging on trees along the river.

The pathetic firefly..

We never regret for staying at Lotus Beach Resort http://www.lotusdesaru.com.sg/index.php, it is definitely the best in Desaru. I loved their two storeys room, the living room was so spacious that you could roll yourself on the floor over and over for four rounds. One thing to note though, the steps of the stairs were wide and without any support. Meaning you will lose your footing and roll down if you are not careful. I was glad I left in one piece. That was my only worry during the trip.

Toilet on first storey
Careful of the stairs
View from our room! Nice pool right?
I was attracted to Lotus Beach not only for their double storey spacious room, but also their swimming pools and water park. There are lazy river as well as water slides. Though I cannot swim, but I enjoyed playing with water. If I remembered correctly, there were a total of three pools for each of the different themes. We extended for another night to enjoy their facilities. If not, our stay would not be complete.

Buggy service to bring us around the resort
