Pulau Ubin - The Last Kampung

**6th July 2013**

Before boarding bum boat from Changi Point Ferry Terminal, we had this famous Changi Nasi Lemak (Mizzy Corner) for lunch. I was quite disappointed as the standard has dropped badly from what I had tasted years ago. I was puzzled by the long queue, probably due to same reason like mine. We don't recognise stall name, but remembered its location. I found out later that the actual famous stall International Muslim Food Nasi Lemak has moved to another location at Changi Food Village after renovation.

Now this explains why the fried chicken tasted average, and service was very slow. I only took a bite of the chicken, and left it on my plate untouched. Four staffs were working in the stall, two prepared ingredients and fried the chickens. One taking orders while the other packed your nasi lemak. She could actually forget whether you wanted otah or fish fillet. Why did I not question myself when I saw all other Malays eating nasi lemak from another stall, but only Chinese queuing at Mizzy Corner?

Bum boat charge was SGD2 / pax per trip. Boat ride about 20 minutes. In order to get to Chek Jawa (swamp), we had to rent bicycles. Always remember to drink enough water as we totally went dehydrated after 10 minutes due to the humid weather. Luckily, the trees were blocking most of the sunlight. I enjoyed the Kampung scenery and it was as though we were in Malaysia. Check out http://www.wildsingapore.com/ubin/going.htm

If you are lucky enough, you will meet up with some monkeys or wild boars along the ride. Be careful and mount your bicycle whenever there are steep slopes or signs signalling you to do so. Better be safe than sorry as I have heard a lot of stories about people hurting themselves when they fell off while cycling at Pulau Ubin.

One does not simply missed out Chek Jawa when visiting Pulau Ubin. If possible, go there during low tide whereby you will get to see those sea creatures such as crabs, and mud skippers in the swamp. From the bridge, you can see a bird's eye size of Changi Point Ferry Terminal.
